At BOOKED Trips, we make that dream a reality, crafting literary escapes that are as enriching as they are exhilarating. But our adventures go beyond the thrill of ticking off bucket-list destinations. We believe in travel that gives back, that weaves a tapestry of cultural connection and community impact.

That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce you to Sorted Chale, a Black woman-owned travel company in Accra, Ghana. 🇬🇭 They’re our trusted partners for our BOOKED Trips Accra, Ghana experience, where we dive deep into the powerful narrative of Yaa Gyasi’s bestselling novel, Homegoing.

We chose Sorted Chale because they’re more than just guides; they’re local insiders and curators. ✨ They possess an unparalleled knowledge of the continent and a deep, infectious love for Ghana. We crafted a custom experience that brings the themes and scenes of our selected book from the page to the place. Their expertise ensures every traveler feels like a “chale” (meaning friend) by the end of each trip, welcomed with open arms and embraced by the vibrant energy of the community.

Recently, we had the chance to chat with Sorted Chale’s founder, Vidette Adjorlolo, for our “Meet Our Partners” feature. We delved into her perfect weekend in Accra, Ghana, explored her favorite reads, and gained invaluable insights into the heart and soul of this incredible city. So, grab your copy of Homegoing and get ready to embark on a transformative journey with BOOKED Trips and Sorted Chale.

1. Tell us a little bit about you and what inspired you to start Sorted Chale:

I am Vidette Adjorlolo, Founder and CEO of Sorted Chale. Before starting Sorted Chale, I’d been employed for 4 years as a banker, I slowly reached a place where I felt like I wasn’t being challenged. I reached a place in my career where I felt that my next challenge wasn’t in banking. The next step was to try and build something on my own and naturally, I gravitated towards the things I’m very passionate about, which are travel and meeting new people. The more I researched into the travel industry the more I grew excited for the innovation I could bring into that space, and before I knew it I was on a flight from Hong Kong where I was working as a Banker to Ghana, to start a career in tourism.

2. Describe your perfect weekend in Accra? What are your favorite things to eat, see, and do?

My perfect weekend in Accra starts with a morning walk at 5:30 am in Osu where I live, my morning walk will end with me buying some bofrot (Ghanaian donuts) and groundnuts for breakfast. If I’m not busy I’ll make a stop at Movenpick hotel for a swim, as I think they have one of the best pools in the city and I’ll make sure I have a caesar salad there too because they are to die for, in the evening I’ll hit the club with friends, and my most preferred club is Alley Bar. On Sundays, I go to church at Action Chapel, spend the afternoon eating Omotuo and peanut butter soup with my mother at her house or at Oseikrom in East Legon, and wrap it up with a cheeky cocktail at Sandbox or Sky bar. That to me is a perfect weekend!

3. What food/dish immediately connects you to a place that you’ve been around the world?

Vietnamese Pho is a strong reminder of my backpacking days around South East Asia, those trips marked my love for travel.
4. What is a book you love to recommend?
One of my favorite books is Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, which is the theme for the trip to Ghana.
5. How can people support you and your work?
By engaging with us across our social media platforms and joining us on one of our trips 🙂
